Jakarta, Muharram 1, 1434 H/ November 15, 2012 (MINA) – Indonesia’s concerns over the situation in the Middle East, especially Palestine, presented by the delegation of the Commission 1 of the House of Representatives to the Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, in a meeting held at the UN Headquarters, New York, on Monday (11/12/2012).
“Indonesian Parliament expressed deep concern for the suffering of the Palestinian people and asked the UN to play a greater role in the resumption of dialogue between the Palestinians and Israel,” said the Head of Delegation of the Commission 1 House of Representatives, Hayono Isman told media, here, Thursday.
“We emphasize that the House of Representatives supports the position of the Government of Indonesia on the issue,” said Isman, a senior member of the ruling Democrat Party, upon returning home from New York.
Besides the issue of the Middle East, the Parliament delegation also discussed with the Secretary-General a number of other issues, including the situation in Myanmar, the Global Development Agenda Post-2015, and disarmament.
“Related to the Syrian conflict, the House of Representatives and the Secretary-General to exchange ideas about the development and the challenges faced by the Joint Special Representative of the Secretary-General to Syria,” said Isman.
On occasion, according to Isman, the UN chief also expressed hope that the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) to facilitate increased parliamentary support all member states on the implementation of UN peace agenda.
Hayono added, “UN Secretary-General gave his appreciation for the active role of the Indonesian parliament in support of the Government of Indonesia constructive contribution to efforts to obtain solutions to various problems, both in the region and throughout the world.

While in New York, delegates to the House of Representatives has scheduled a meeting with top officials and a number of UN agencies, including the Under Secretary General for Peace Keeping Operations, Herve Ledsous, UN Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA ) and the Central Emergency Relief Fund (CERF), UNDP, the UN Department of Peace Keeping Operations (UNDPKO), and the UN Department of Field Service (UNDFS).
