Palestinian Americans Praise Palestinian Success In UN Status Upgrade

NEW YORK, 18 Muharram 1434 /December 2, 2012 (WAFA/MINA) – Leaders of the Palestinian American community in the United States Saturday commended the Palestinian Authority on its success to upgrade the status of Palestine from a permanent observer entity to a non-member observer state in the United Nations.

They expressed in a statement their support to the move, “which preserves the two-state solution and promotes a peaceful and just resolution to the conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis.”

In their letter, they also called upon US President Barack Obama and his administration “to cease its opposition to the status upgrade and refrain from any punitive measures against the Palestinians.”

They said that this move is not unilateral, but rather has garnered the support of 138 nations around the world.

“The Palestinians have publicly acknowledged, including in the draft resolution itself, that returning to the negotiating table is essential, and that this conflict can only be resolved when both sides come to a final agreement,” they said. (T/R-009/R-006)
