Washington, 23 Safar 1434/5 January 2013 (KUNA/MINA) – The United States applauded on Friday the Lebanese government for asking the international community an amount of USD 180 million to aid in taking care of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
“The US has been supporting Lebanon bilaterally in its refugee efforts. We applaud the fact that Lebanon has now come forward with a comprehensive refugee plan that they are participating actively now in the overall UN appeal”, said State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland in a press briefing.
“I would take this opportunity to call on as many countries as possible to do what the United States is doing, which is to contribute generously to the revised United Nations appeal for response both inside Syria and for neighboring countries”, she added.
Nuland also noted that that “obviously it’ is a good thing that Lebanon has a plan, that they’re participating, and we hope countries will be as generous as possible”. (T/R-019/R-006)
