Gaza Strip, 11 Rabiul Akhir 1434/21 February 2013 (MINA) – The Hamas Islamic Resistance Movement has warned that Israel will regret changing its military law to re-detain those freed under the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal.
Hamas spokesman Samei Abu Zuhrei said in a statement last night that Israel’s law-change is a clear violation of the exchange deal brokered by Egypt between Hamas and Israel. He called on Israel to retreat from its decision, or they will regret it.
Hebrew Media sources have reported that changes in Israel’s military law now allow the Israeli Military Forces (IMF) and Shin Bet to rearrest any released detainee until the end of his or her original sentence, on the slightest pretext and often relying on secret evidence.
IMF, in cooperation with Shin Bet, have re-detained 14 of those freed in the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal since its implementation in October 2011, according to Alresalah reports monitored by Mi’raj News Agency (MINA), Thursday.
