Sofia, 17 Rabi’ul Awwal 1437/28 December 2015 (MINA) – Bulgarian Turks have taken part in a ceremony to commemorate the death of the Muslim Turks as a result of Bulgarian policy between the years of 1984-1990. In the commemorative ceremony, the Bulgarian Turks protested against the repressive policies inflicted on the Turks of the Mogilyane village of Kardzhali province on 26 December 1984, World Bulletin quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
The communist regime, refused to tolerate any religious rituals, and forced integration of Muslim intoo Bulgaria’s largely Christian Orthodox population, pressuring them to abandon wearing their traditional outfits and adopt Slavonic names.
Prayers were recited at the grave of Turkan Feyzullah who was a 17 month old baby when killed in the arms of her mother.
The water fountain in the village of Mogilyane was built to honor the memory of the baby girl.
Several thousands Muslims from Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece took part in the rally. Those who died were also honoured in a separate ceremony in the city of Mestan whilst, Turkey Embassy officials also attended the ceremony. (T/P006/R03)
