Serpong, MINA – Indonesia has 1,247 industries and traditional medicine businesses, 10 of them are large-scale traditional drug companies, making it difficult to produce standardized drugs.
Head of LIPI Chemical Research Center, Agus Haryono made the remarks in his speech at the ground breaking ceremony for the Construction of CPOTB Building (or in English a Methode for the Making of Good Traditional Drugs) in Serpong, west of here Thursday (8/3).
“We will build a Traditional Medicine Development Facility with CPOTB Standard and it is expected to become a pilot laboratory of CPOTB in order to facilitate small and medium industries to accelerate the development of traditional medicinal products in the country,” said Agus.
Currently, the working unit for that purpose is very focused on developing traditional medicine. “From our research, we have found many new compounds from Indonesian native plants extract that have potential as anti cancer, anti diabet, anti malaria, and antioxidant,” Agus explained.
Agus also revealed, the construction of this research facility will enable more focused research and provide more adequate facilities for research related to traditional medicine.
“Our hope through the traditional drug development research facilities with CPOTB standard, our research results can be more qualified and easily accepted by the industry,” he concluded. (L/R07/P2/RS5)
