Palestinians Demonstrate in Gaza on Third Great March of Return

Muslim worshippers perform Friday noon prayers during a tent city protest near the border with Israel.

Gaza, MINA – Thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip headed towards the border with Israel for the third Friday as part of the ongoing protests of the Great March of Return, demanding return of the Palestinian refugees to their homes in historical Palestine, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Thousands of demonstrators in the besieged enclave gathered at many locations on the border on the third Great March of Return to demand their right of return to their pre-1948 homes.

Demonstrators have gathered at tent camps along the border every day since the protests began on March 30 marking the Land Day, but the higher numbers have protested on Fridays. Over 30 Palestinians were killed and thousands injured by Israeli forces since the beginning of the protests on March 30.

The planned six-week protests are scheduled to end on 15 May, the 70th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (Catastrophe), in which more than 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced by Israeli militias in 1948.

The Gaza Ministry of Health announced that hospitals and medical personnel were on high alert as of Friday morning to deal with the anticipated influx of casualties.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has raised concerns about Gaza’s capacity to handle thousands of wounded in the past several weeks, highlighting the besieged enclave’s already strained resources. . (T/RS5/RS1)
